The CCTech Field Service Division uses expertise gained as a specialist provider supporting the design, development and operation of environments for leading research facilities and healthcare institutions to provide inspection services, laboratory staff training, local exhaust ventilation (LEV) annual Thorough Examination and Test (TExT) inspections, repair and emergency fumigation response services for Containment Levels 3 and 4 Facilities – as designated by the Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens (ACDP) and the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
The CCTech Field Service Division is led by Steve Robertson, Director of Containment, who brings more than 25 years’ experience and is widely recognised as one of the leading experts in the field of laboratory containment. Steve is eminently qualified to advise, having attained Chartered Chemist and Occupational Hygiene qualifications – the latter related to the examination, testing and design of Local Exhaust Ventilation.
Steve has been personally responsible for the delivery of fumigation services to more than 100 laboratories and has also advised and provided consultancy to support regulatory bodies with respect to guidance notes and other regulatory criteria.

Laboratory Integrity Testing and Emergency Fumigation Service
CL3 and CL4 laboratories must be inspected annually at no more than 14 month intervals, in order to comply with the requirements of COSHH regulations, and specifically the HSE publications ‘The management, design and operation of microbiological containment laboratories’ and ‘Sealability of Microbiological Containment Level 3 and 4 Facilities’. Failures in laboratory containment can have serious consequences for a team’s work, safety and reputation. The CCTech Services team has unmatched laboratory containment experience, to support facilities to maintain integrity. CCTech can contract to provide mandatory inspections, and planned preventative and emergency maintenance, including the following:
- Inspection of HVAC systems, including HEPA filters and seals
- Room Integrity Testing
- Calibration of Air Pressure Monitoring Instrumentation
- Air Pressure Alarm Testing
- Assessment of Room Suitability for Fumigation
