The CCTech team was proud to celebrate a major milestone at the Life Science Awards in London on 24th June, where the IHP/VINCI team’s Paterson Building project secured two prestigious accolades:

- Social Value & Community Impact
These awards mark a significant achievement for the CCTech team, whose members – Steven Cubitt, Fintan Lyons, Steve Robertson, Chris Sear, Brian Gwynne, and Jamie Irvine – played a pivotal role in the project’s success.
A Landmark in Cancer Research Infrastructure
The Paterson Building is the result of a strategic partnership between The University of Manchester, Cancer Research UK, and The Christie. It now stands as one of Europe’s largest integrated cancer research environments, co-locating scientists, clinicians, and technical teams to accelerate translational research and improve patient outcomes. CCTech was appointed by IHP/VINCI as the specialist technical science advisor, working from the earliest stages of the project through to handover. Their mission: ensure the facility could support live research within weeks of practical completion – a goal rarely achieved in complex laboratory environments.
Designing for Immediate Impact
In many projects, operational readiness can lag by up to two years post-completion. CCTech’s approach was different. By collaborating closely with end users from the outset, the team developed:
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Risk Assessments
- Mock Ups
- Process Flows
- Equipment Specifications
- Validation Proceeds
- Training programmes
- Facility Reliability Testing
This process-first methodology ensured the building was designed and constructed around the scientific workflows it would support—enabling rapid mobilisation and early research outputs.

Today, the Paterson Building is not only a catalyst for scientific discovery but also a magnet for international talent. It exemplifies the 'bench to bedside' model, integrating research and clinical care to deliver real-world impact. CCTech is honoured to have contributed to a project of such scale, ambition, and societal value—and to be recognised alongside the IHP/VINCI team for delivering a facility that is already transforming cancer research in the UK and beyond.
